Slovenia was chosen for our 2015 summer vacation and for our 2016 vacation
for several reasons, its Swiss beauty being the predominant one. It is smaller
than Switzerland but has a lot of natural beauty and an abundance of rivers and
other water bodies. It is also less expensive in terms of lodging,
transportation and other living necessities. Additionally, the number of
tourists is less compared to Switzerland; so, it is quiet in summer,
particularly outside the capital.
In 2015, as a family of nine, we visited Slovenia and stayed at the Slon
Hotel in the capital, Ljubljana, close to the main square downtown. We used the
capital as the hub, from which we visited several towns and villages in
Slovenia. Every trip would take an hour or an hour and a half. We
visited Maribor, Ptuj, Celje, Bled, Potonja, Piran, Portorož, Kobarid, Bovec, Koper, Lipitca
and Kranjesta Gora. This summer,
we decided to settle down in the city of Kranjska Gora for most of the time to
have an active vacation in the center of the Alps.
